Kikis Talarides-Passed the Bar Examination at first try and admitted to English Bar May 1953. November 1956 appointed Magistrate in judicial service of Cyprus. In 1959 appointed Crown Counsel in Office of Attorney General, assigned to prosecution of major offenses, and in 1960 Counsel to Republic of Cyprus. In 1968 promoted to Senior Counsel and conducted all major prosecutions including the attempted assassination of president Makarios which he won at trial level and on appeal. Emigrated to USA in 1975 after Turkish invasion of Cyprus. Passed the State Bar of California attorneys examination at first try in February 1976. Admitted to practice as an Attorney and Counselor at Law by the Supreme Court of California on May 4 1976. Was also admitted to the US District Court for the Northern District of California and in May 1977 to the US Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit. He formed and was partner in the Oakland, California, firm of Baker, De Ome, Talarides, and Batchelder and had extensive experience in criminal defense cases and plaintiff's civil cases with emphasis in personal injury, contract and family law. He reopened an office in Nicosia, Cyprus, in 1993 doing extensive work in plaintiff's civil and criminal litigation. From 2000-2002 he reorganized, as Chief Counsel, the Law Department of the Marfin Popular Bank Public Co Ltd (ex Cyprus Popular Bank Public Co Ltd) while maintaining his private office. Since 2002 he is retained as legal adviser of Marfin and the Laiki Group of Companies and represents them in court in a number of cases. He continues his private practice in major civil and criminal litigation. Our law practice has been varied over the years. We have had exposure from many perspectives of the law. As senior counsel and prosecutor in the Cyprus Attorney-General's Office, as a judge in Cyprus, as an attorney and counselor at law in California in private practice (1976-1982 and 1989-1993), as chief counsel for the Marfin Popular Bank Public Co. Ltd (ex Cyprus Popular Bank Public Co. Ltd) and the Laiki Group of Companies (2000-2002) and as a lawyer in private practice in Cyprus (1972-1976 and since 1993 to date). Because of our extensive and varied experience, apart from our work for Marfin and the Laiki Group of Companies, we can undertake the litigation of major civil and criminal matters.
